North Shore Events for August 7-9 2015

The weekends just keep getting better and better. This weekend is packed with festivals including Rotary Days  (featuring ‘The Stu Show”) at Wagner Farm, the endless fun of Northbrook Days, the much anticipated Kite Festival at the Garden, and the nationally acclaimed Art at the Glen Town Center festival. Or, simply relax and support a great cause at the Chicago in White party at Ravinia or simply take in a fun show at the Oil Lamp Theatre.

Rotary Days – featuring The Stu Show

Northbrook Days Festival

Kite Festival

Aug. 8-9: 10 am – 3 pm
Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe
In the meadow west of Evening Island, enjoy soaring stunt-kite performances set to music by members of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois. Workshops, demonstrations and special children’s activities round out the days’ events. Walk or take the free tram to the Festival. Art at the Glen Town Center

Aug. 8 & 9: 10 am – 6 pm
Patriot Blvd, Glenview
The Glen Town Center transforms into an outdoor cultural experience for people to enjoy original art, an array of shopping and dining options as well as live performances by the renowned Marriott Theater. Rated as one of the top 40 shows in the United States by Sunshine Artist Magazine, Art at the Glen will line the streets showcasing the work of 185-juried artists from across the country in a variety of mediums, including paintings, photography, ceramics, furniture and jewelry. Kids can enjoy a special area designated just for them with interactive games and activities, including art scavenger hunts throughout the weekend. Chicago in White 2015

Aug. 8: 6 pm
Ravinia Festival, 200 Ravinia Park Rd., Highland Park
“Chicago in White” is an annual pop-up party, moving from the city to the North Shore with a new purpose. Usually held in a surprise location that is disclosed the day of, this year’s event will take place at Ravinia Festival, on the lawn, under the stars, in a reserved section for Chicago in White guests. This year’s charity tie-in and outside of the city locale dictated the need for advanced disclosure. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Ravinia’s Reach, Tech, Play program. Tables, chairs, and linens will be provided, along with an evening full of surprise and delight. Attendees bring their own food, drink and decorations. Feature performer: Chicago Jazz Legend Ramsey Lewis and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. $30 per person, includes admission to the concert. For tickets, click here.

Bleacher Bums

Enjoy Joe Mantegna’s story of the bleachers at Chicago’s Wrigley Field where die hard Cub fans root for their team. The group includes a rabid cheerleader, a blind man who follows the game by transistor radio, a bathing beauty, a nerd, and various other bleacher denizens. As the game proceeds, they bet among themselves on every conceivable event, go out for frosty malts or beers, try to pick up the bathing beauty and, occasionally, watch the game.
