Chicago’s North Shore Beaches

chicago-2-l
Visitors can travel the North Shore on a day trip, but there’s plenty to do if you have a weekend or a full vacation. From Chicago’s city limits, Sheridan Road winds through Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Lake Forest, and Lake Bluff―the waterfront towns that lead nearly to Wisconsin. To fully explore the area, Evanston makes an ideal base is the focus of our posting this week.

Evanston’s lakefront and beaches are a popular attraction.

Evanston’s five public swimming beaches are open for the season. A daily pass or season token must be presented for beach admission.

Beach Hours

From May 23 through June 5, beach hours are 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. From June 6 through Sept. 7 (Labor Day), beach hours are 10:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Evanston has three beaches which are accessible to people with disabilities: Greenwood Street, Lee Street and Lighthouse.

With a boat launch, kayak and sailboat rentals, kayak and sailboat lessons, kayak fishing trips and miles of sandy beaches, everyone can enjoy a day on the lakefront.
